3.0 RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
1 This section presents the results of the first quarter 2000 monitoring event
3 1 Data Validation
' The laboratory report provided by STL was reviewed by Dames & Moore's data validation
group in order to insure that the reported data results are accurate Results of the Dames &
Moore QA/QC of the data are included in Appendix B All data were determined to be
acceptable for use
3 2 Groundwater Levels
Groundwater was measured to be approximately 37 feet below ground surface on February
28, 2000 Groundwater levels decreased approximately two feet between December 1999
and February 2000 The direction of groundwater flow in February 200 was variable, with
' the strongest component oriented towards the north-northeast, as illustrated in Figure 3
Variations in the direction of groundwater flow during the 12-year period are presented in
Figure 3 Flow directions appear to have shifted from west in 1987 to the east in 1995, and
are noA generally in the direction of north-northeast to northeast
3.3 TPH-D in Groundwater
TPH-D groundwater results for samples collected on February 28, 2000 have been
compiled with previous data in Table 3 Groundwater samples from wells DMW-3 (53
,ug/L), DMW-6 (1 10 /.rg/L) and DMW-7 (87 /rg/L) contain what appears to be weathered
diesel reported as unknown hydrocarbon A single unknown peak which does not
correspond to diesel fuel has been reported as unknown hydrocarbons in samples collected
from wells DMW-2 (53 /jg/L) and DMW-4 (55 pg/L) Hydrocarbons were not reported for
samples collected from wells DMW-1 and DMW-5
' Review of historical TPH-D data indicates that maximum TPH concentration reported since
1987 was for the sampling event in September 1999 Prior to the installation of DMW-6
and DMW-7 in December 1998, the only other reported TPH concentration was 180 Ng/I at
DMW-4
The weathered diesel reported as unknown hydrocarbon has been consistently detected
during the six sampling events conducted at DMW-6 and DMW-7 since December 1998
These %,,ells are constructed so that representative water samples can be collected directly at
' Dames& Moore 5 !1AFP\REP0RT\Q1-2000 DOC
