„ <br /> 9 0 <br /> A ceiling value (C) is a concentration that should not be exceeded at any time in <br /> any workday Ceiling limits are used by OSHA, ACGIH and NIOSH for <br /> chemical exposure cntena <br /> Summanes on the site constituents of concern follow <br /> Diesel Fuel (Fuel Oil) <br />' Diesel fuel is mildly toxic by ingestion When inhaled, many of the constituents <br /> function as central nervous system depressants, with characteristic symptoms <br /> (headaches, nausea, dizziness, incoordination, and vomiting) Diesel fuel has been <br />' shown to be a strong skin irritant <br /> Few chromc inhalation or ingestion studies of the toxic effects of diesel <br /> vapors/fuels are available Skin painting studies of experimental animals suggest <br /> the potential for weak tumor-producing activity <br />' Because diesel fuel is a complex mixture of varying proportions of hydrocarbons, a <br /> mean odor threshold or ionization potential has not been determined <br /> Skin contact with potentially contaminated materials will be minimized by the use <br /> of personal protective clothing (as described in Sections 1 0 and 7 0) Inhalation <br /> of vapors or particulates during the site activities will be minimized by air <br />' monitoring and the use of engineering controls, and respiratory protection will be <br /> used if Action Levels described in Section 10 are exceeded Ingestion of <br /> contaminated materials will be minimized by the use of appropriate personal <br />' hygiene procedures during decontamination(i e , thoroughly washing face and <br /> hands with soap and water after leaving the work area and prior to eating or <br /> drinking) <br /> 5 12 Hazard Communication Materials <br /> Materials which are considered hazardous materials under the OSHA Hazard <br /> Communication Standard (8 CCR 5194) may be used during this project In <br /> accordance with the Dames & Moore Hazard Communication Program, the <br /> MSDSs for the hazardous materials listed in Section 10 are included in <br /> Attachment F The SSO will make copies of these MSDSs available to any <br /> subcontractors (i a drillers, excavators) on this project <br />' Dames & Moore's written Hazard Communication program is located in Section <br /> HS 140 of the D&M Health and Safety Program Manual, a copy of which shall be <br />' maintained on site <br /> AMFOREST 21 7 13 <br />
