52 PHYSICAL HAZARDS <br />' Physical hazards at this work site include <br /> • Heat stress, <br /> • Noise from the operation of site equipment, <br /> • Slip-tnp-fall type of accidents, <br /> Back injuries due to improper lifting, <br /> • Being caught in or struck by moving equipment, and <br />' • Electrocution or explosion hazards associated with drilling such as contact with overhead <br /> or underground power lines or pipelines <br /> IHazards from cold stress, confined space entry, trenching, and ionizing radiation are not <br /> anticipated to be part of this project and so are not addressed in this Plan <br /> ' 5 2 1 Heat Stress Recognition and Control <br /> Heat stress monitoring shall commence when personnel are wearing PPE, <br /> ' including Tyvek&-type coveralls, and the ambient temperature exceeds 70T If <br /> standard work garments (cotton coveralls) are warn, monitoring shall commence <br /> at 85'F Heat stress monitoring and control guidance can be found in Attachment <br /> ' G Additional information regarding Dames & Moore's approach to Heat Stress <br /> is located in Section HS 300 of the D&M Health and Safety Program Manual, a <br /> copy of which shall be maintained on site As cool temperatures are expected to <br /> prevail during the course of this project, problems relating to heat stress are not <br /> anticipated <br /> ' 5 2 2 Noise Hazards <br /> Previous surveys indicate that heavy equipment may produce continuous and <br /> impact noise at or above the action level of 85 dBA Such equipment on this <br /> project includes drilling equipment All D&M personnel within 25 feet of <br /> ' operating equipment, or near an operation that creates noise levels high enough to <br /> impair conversation, shall wear hearing protective devices (either muffs or plugs) <br /> All D&M personnel are in the Dames & Moore Hearing Conservation Program <br /> ' and have had baseline and, where appropriate, annual audiograms Personnel will <br /> wash their hands with soap and water prior to inserting earplugs to avoid initiating <br /> ear infections Additional information regarding Dames & Moore's Hearing <br /> jConservation Program is located in Section HS 220 of the D&M Health and <br /> Safety Program Manual, a copy of which shall be maintained on site <br /> ' 5 2 3 Slip/Tnp/Fall Hazards <br /> Workers should exercise caution when walking around the site to avoid fail and <br /> trip hazards If holes or uneven terrain are located in the work area which could <br /> cause site personnel to fall or trip, they musk be covered, flagged or marked to <br /> warn workers If conditions become slippery, workers should take small steps <br /> AMFOREST 2 1 7 14 <br />
