3 2 3 Sample Withdrawal
Water samples will be collected from monitoring wells using disposable polyethylene bailers The
bailers will be disposed of after one use, thus requiring no decontaminating, therefore minimizing
potential for cross contamination due to sampling devices Samples will be collected in such a manner
that agitation and exposure of the groundwater to the atmosphere is minimized Samples containers
will be filled by using a disposable attachment that allows flow out of the bottom of the bailer by lifting
up on the check valve
One duplicate groundwater sample will be collected during each sample round The duplicate sample
will be collected in the same manner as the primary sample, following collection of the primary
sample The duplicate sample will be submitted to the laboratory as a "blind" duplicate, that is, its
identification does not reveal which well it came from A separate Field Record of Water Sample form
will be completed for the duplicate sample, and include the identification of the monitoring well from
which the duplicate sample is taken
3 2 4 Sample Preservation and Handling
"Certified clean" sample containers, supplied by the laboratory, will be used during the collection
of groundwater samples Sample handling procedures will consist of
Analysis Container Quantit Preservation
EPA 8015 Modified Amber 2x1 liter Cool (4 C)
The samples will be placed on ice immediately following collection, and kept in coolers until shipment
to the laboratory for analysis Samples will be delivered to the laboratory on the day of sampling
3 2 5 Field Parameters
The parameters pH, electrical conductivity and temperature of the groundwater will be measured in
the field during the purging of the wells prior to sample collection The meters used for measuring
these parameters will be calibrated prior to use according to the manufacturer's instructions Field
parameters will be recorded on a Feld Record of Water Sample form for each well These records will
be included in the sampling report
3 2 6 Chain-of-Custody Procedures
A sample chain-of-custody will be completed for each sample collected The Chain-of-Custody will
include the sample identification, date and time of sample collection, sample collector's name, the
project site name, analysis requested, and the signature of and inclusive time and date of sample
possession of each person assuming possession of the samples A copy of the chain-of-custody will be
MIMES&MOORE 6
