San Joaquin County Public Health Services <br /> Environmental Health Division <br /> November 1, 1994 <br /> Page 5 <br /> The sampler will be fitted with 2-inch diameter, 3-inch long stainless steel rings Sample <br /> rings will be separated with a clean soil knife The exposed ends of the rings will be covered with <br /> Teflon sheets and secured with tight-fitting plastic end caps Sample labels will be affixed to the end <br /> caps and will contain the following information boring number, sample location, sample number, <br /> sample depth, date of sampling, sample collector's initials, ,lob number and name of facility <br /> Three rings from the 18-inch driven sampler will be retained from each sample interval <br /> These samples will have the same sample identification numbers except for postscripts "A,B, or C" <br /> The lowest ring, Sample "A", will generally be retained for chemical testing, or frozen for possible <br /> future chemical analysis, "B" samples will be screened with the PID, and the "C" samples will be <br /> retained for possible physical testing <br /> Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in cooled ice chests The ice chests <br /> will also serve as containers for shipping samples to the analytical laboratory Chain-of-custody <br /> records will be maintained using standard forms, and routed to the analytical laboratory with the <br /> sealed ice-chests containing the samples <br /> Equipment Decontamination <br /> All downhole drilling equipment and tools will be steam cleaned prior to and following the <br /> boring A clean area on-site will be designated as the steam cleaning station. This area will be lined <br /> or otherwise prepared to contain the rinsate generated during steam cleaning Rinsate will be <br /> transferred from the containment area to DOT-approved containers, sealed, labeled, and stored on- <br /> site until analytical results are received After each use, samplers will be washed thoroughly in a <br /> detergent solution, rinsed in fresh water, and final rinsed with distilled water <br /> SAC128 i8 Page-5 DAMES & MooRE <br />
