Weber Avenue,thud Floor
Stockton, California 95202
F Attention: Mr. Jeffrey Wong
Re: Second Quarter 2003 Groundwater Monitoring Report
Former American Forest Products Facility
Stockton, California
URS Project No. 17322736
Dear Mr. Wong:
._ On behalf of Mr. William Bergvall, consultant for American Forest Products Company LP, URS
Corporation Americas (URS) is submitting this letter report that includes results of second quarter
groundwater monitoring conducted in June 2003 at the Former American Forest Products Facility,
Stockton, California (Figures 1 and 2). Groundwater monitoring was conducted, and this report
produced, following the requirements presented in a letter from Mr. Jeffrey Wong of the San Joaquin
County Public Health Service(PHS/EHD)dated April 16,2003.
==' l Water levels were measured and groundwater samples were collected from site monitoring wells DMW-1
through DMW-7 on June 24, 2003. Well construction details for all of the wells are included in Table 1.
'i Field records and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix A. A Data Validation Summary and
analytical laboratory reports are included in Appendix B.
FIELD METHODS
Static water levels (Table 2) were measured prior to initiating sampling activities using an electric water
E>' level sounder.
Prior to sampling, the wells were purged to ensure representativeness of the water samples. A 2-inch-
diameter stainless steel Grundfos Redi-Flow submersible pump was used for purging all of the wells.
Field parameters (temperature, electrical conductivity, pH and turbidity) were monitored during purging,
:., and purging was continued until the field parameters stabilized and a minimum of three casing volumes of
groundwater had been removed. The wells were purged at a pumping rate of approximately two gallons
per minute. Purging data were entered on Field Record of Water Sampling Forms (Appendix A). Before
and after purging each well, the submersible pump was decontaminated by steam cleaning, washing in an
Alconox solution, rinsing with fresh water, and final rinsing with distilled water.
i.J
.1
URS Corporation
Crown Corporate Center
2870 Gateway Oaks Drive, Suite 300
Sacramento, CA 95833
Tel: 916.679.2000 K:\WROCESSU2736\2QO3AFP_RF-VOT.DOC
:1 Fax:916.679.2900
