As the tank system formerly located on this property near the area of this well is
suspect, the area expected to be impacted from a release from this former tank system must be
investigated as a source. Assuming a similar distribution pattern as those found at the nearby
release sites, the bulk of a release is expected to be located primarily directly beneath the former
underground storage tanks. The former associated piping and dispensers may also prove to be a
contributor. Therefore, the soil borings proposed for this investigation ideally should be placed
directly through these suspected source areas, if at all possible. Investigations focused in the
source areas prove to be the most efficient and cost effective over time, and usually have more
timely resolutions.
Based on the above, the current scope of work proposed for this site appears to be sufficient.
However, the final placement of the soil borings, as accurately as possible, in the source areas is
highly recommended. This work can be scheduled to begin after the permit to drill is issued by
this office. Please also provide this office, at the number shown below, with at least 48 hours
advance notice prior to initiating the work at the site.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss this letter in more detail, please contact Linda
Turkatte, Senior REHS, at(209)468-3441.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Linda A.
