INTERIM SOIL AND GROUNDWATER <br /> CORRECTIVE ACTION SUMMARY REPORT <br /> 8960 W. Walnut Grove Rd <br /> Thornton, California <br /> 1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br /> This report is submitted by Ground Zero Analysis, Inc (Ground Zero) on behalf of Barnyard <br /> Corporation to summarize interim corrective action conducted at the subject site The site <br /> formerly operated as a convenience store and retail gasoline station and utilized three 10,000- <br /> gallon underground storage tanks(USTs) to store diesel and gasoline fuel <br /> A limited subsurface assessment conducted in December 1996 determined that petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons had impacted soil and groundwater beneath the site The USTs and associated piping <br /> were removed under permit from San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health <br /> Division (PHS/EHD) in January 1999 A follow up subsurface investigation conducted in July 1999 <br /> essentially delineated the extent of soil and groundwater contamination resulting from fuel <br /> released from the former USTs Based on the results of the investigation, source removal <br /> excavation and supplemental groundwater removal and disposal were proposed in the Interim <br /> Corrective Action Workplan and Addendum dated February 15, 2000 and March 14, 2000 <br /> Approximately 3,700 cubic yards of soil was excavated from the area immediately surrounding <br /> the former USTs The excavation proceeded to a depth of approximately 15 feet bgs where <br /> subjective analysis and field FID readings suggested the vertical extent of contamination had been <br /> reached Confirmation soil samples collected from the sidewalls and floor of the excavation <br /> confirmed that virtually all contaminated soil has been excavated Approximately 60,000 gallons <br /> of contaminated groundwater was pumped from the excavation and transported to the <br /> Sacramento County Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant for disposal under a temporary <br /> discharge permit Analytical results from groundwater samples collected from the excavation <br /> indicated that petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were significantly reduced by interim remedial <br /> measures conducted at the site <br /> Pursuant to a directive by PHS/EHD dated February 16, 2000, Ground Zero recommends installing <br /> and sampling four groundwater monitoring wells to confirm the efficacy of interim corrective action <br /> G 1Dala1GROUNDZEIMANSER\Rq,,,Mlso lexsum doe <br />
