INTERIM SOIL AND GROUNDWATER
CORRECTIVE ACTION SUMMARY REPORT
8940 W Walnut Grove Road, Thornton, CA
and to evaluate current groundwater conditions beneath the site
2.0 INTRODUCTION
This report is submitted on behalf of Barnyard Corporation to summarize the results of soil
' excavation and groundwater remediation activities conducted at the subject site The work was
performed as an interim remedial measure to remove petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil, which
appeared to be acting as a continuing source of groundwater contamination, and to remove a
significant volume of contaminated groundwater The work was conducted in accordance with the
' February 15, 2000 and March 14, 2000 Workplan Addenda for Interim Soil and Groundwater
Corrective Action
3 0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
' The site is located at 8960 W Walnut Grove Road in Thornton, California The site is bounded
on the north by Walnut Grove Road, on the west by Highway I-5 and its off-ramp, on the south
' by undeveloped land, and on the east by low income housing The site location is shown on
Figure 1 The site formerly operated as a convenience store and retail gasoline station and utilized
ione 10,000-gallon underground storage tank (UST) to store diesel fuel and two 10,000-gallon USTs
' to store gasoline
3.1 Initial Investigation
A limited subsurface assessment was conducted by Ground Zero in December 1996 Results of
the assessment provided evidence that petroleum hydrocarbon impact to the soil and groundwater
had occurred Analytical results are summarized in Table 1 Soil boring locations are shown on
IFigure 2
3.2 Removal of Underground Storage Tanks
The three USTs and the associated piping were removed under permit from PHS/EHD on January 21,
1999 Analytical results of side wall soil samples and a groundwater sample collected from the UST
excavation indicated that elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons were present in the soil and
Igroundwater Analytical results are summarized in Table 2 Sample locations are shown on Figure 3
GIData1GROCTNDZEIMANSERaeports\soilexsum doe 2
