The report describes the Geoprobe survey conducted in April 1997 and
provides proposed monitoring well locations. The workplan to install four additional monitoring wells
is approved with the following conditions:
1. Cal Farm proposes to install 15 foot screens in the new monitoring wells. This is approved subject
to the condition that when Cal Farm is calculating the groundwater flow direction and gradient, it
will evaluate and compare the differences between the new and existing wells.
2. Monitoring wells MW-6 and MW-8 will be installed in the middle of a plowed field and need to be
protected from tractors. It is strongly suggested that traffic barriers be placed around these wells.
4. The deep monitoring well,MW-7, is to be moved into the fenced portion of the facility,to the
approximate location of SB-1.
5. My 14 March 1997 approval letter stated that the depth of water in temporary well casings S13-7
through SB-10 were to be measured relative to an assumed datum, and that the actual depth of water
should be determined through surveying. Therefore, when the new monitoring wells are surveyed,
the marks on the temporary well casings at SB-7 through SB-10 are also to be surveyed. All
surveying is to be relative to the established benchmark on W. Washington Street, near the Port of
Stockton offices.
6. During the field work in April 1997,monitoring well MW-5 could not be found and was thought to
be destroyed. At that time, I told your consultant that MW-5 must be found and properly
abandoned. This work is to take place at the same time that the four new monitoring wells are
installed.
7. It is standard practice for this office to issue monitoring and reporting programs (MRPs) for sites
which are undergoing groundwater investigation and/or remediation. Therefore, a draft MRP is
Recycled Paper Our mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of California's water resources, and
ensure their proper allocation and efficient use for the benefit ofpresent and future generations.
