PUBLIC HEALTH SERICES pyo
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION `
Ernest M. Fujimoto, M.D., M.P.H., Acting Health Officer .._ P..
94 cpPs
445 N. As a result of this meeting, the following concerns must be resolved prior
to closure certification of the site.
Continue quarterly monitoring of all 5 monitoring wells for the petroleum hydrocarbon constituents excluded
from the previous quarterly groundwater sampling: Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene, and Total
Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Gasoline. Quarterly groundwater measurements performed to date indicate a shift in
the gradient from northeast to northwest; no explanation was provided to account for the change in gradient.
However, we note that the Port of Stockton, 2201 W. Washington Street, drilled a 10 inch casing irrigation well
(100 feet deep with a 50 foot annular grout) in December, 1990, which may account for the gradient shift.
The CVRWQCB is overseeing a nitrate groundwater investigation at the property to the west of the former
CalFarm site. Sampling data noted in the Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton report "Preliminary Site Investigation Report"
dated 14 July 1989 documented nitrate contaminants in a groundwater sample collected from Monitoring Well
#2. The monitoring wells shall undergo sampling for the following constituents: nitrates, organochlorine,
organophosphate, carbamate, triazine. and chlorinated herbicides. The sampling activities will be coordinated
under the direction of Wendy Wyels. CVRWQCB Agricultural Regulatory Unit, who will be contacting you
directly.
If you have any questions, please contact me at (209) 468-3452.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
nvvonment Heal Division
Di a M. 4msonHS, Supervisor
Site Mitigation Unit
cc: Wendy Wyels, CVRWQCB.Ag Regulatory Unit
Elizabeth Thayer, CVRWQCB, UST Regulatory Unit
Michael Infurna, PHS/EHD
Charles Hall
Kelye McKinney, Kennedy-Jenks Consultants
A N,ision of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
