16
approximately 50 grams of soil were collected from each sampling interval, placed in a
resealable plastic bag, and screened in the field for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using
i
a PID. PID boring readings are recorded on the
g g to s.
g
No PID readings above background levels were noted at;any of the borings. As noted on the
k boring tog for SB-02, stained soil was noted in soil from approximately 3.5 to 4.0 feet bgs.
' 4.2 Soil Sample Collection and Analysis N
I Continuous soil cores were collected from each soil boring usig Precision Sampling, Inc.'s
patented Enviro-Core dual-tube, direct-push sampling system:' The Enviro-Core system
;r
consists of a small-diameter drive casing and an inner sample barrel that are simultaneously
pushed, pounded, or vibrated into the ground. Soil cores are collected in stainless-steel
i
liners inside the sample barrel. After being advanced three feet., the full sample barrel is
5
retrieved while the drive casing is left in place to prevent the probe hole from collapsing.
The drive casing ensures that subsequent soil samples are collected from the targeted
r
interval, rather than from slough higher in the probe hole. Soil.samples for potential
E laboratory analysis were collected at approximate three- to fivepfoot intervals beginning at
I !
two to five feet bgs and extending to the total borehole depth. `Following sample collection,
the stainless-steel sleeve containing the soil sample for laboratory analysis was immediately
withdrawn from the sampler and sealed with Teflon® sheets and tight-fitting, plastic end
caps. The soil samples were then labeled with a unique sample' number, date time of
P P q p ,
collection, initials of collector, and Terranext project number. Each soil sample was then
placed in an insulated chest containing ice and delivered (alongwith chain-of-custody
documentation) to Quanterra Environmental Services (Quanterra), located in West
Sacramento, California for analysis.
i
808-001.rpr104-29-97/u/keydaa/repores 4 i
!i
i
• - I. -. -_ti..
