12/02 '02 TUE 09 14 FAX 19259469968 ERMWEST WC IM004 <br /> Mr Harlin Knoll <br /> i 15 June 1999 <br /> Page 3 <br /> investigation are as follows <br /> • MW-1 -upgradient(southwest) of the former tank location, <br /> • MW-2-adjacent (southeast) of the former tank location, <br /> • MW-3 - downgradient (northeast) of the former tank location, and <br /> • <br /> 13-7- adjacent (northwest) of the former tank location <br /> The following sections present the procedures for perforrrung <br /> investigation activities. <br /> Soil Investigation <br /> ERM subcontracted Sub Dynamics, a private utility locator service and <br /> Underground Service Alert to identify subsurface utilities in the <br /> • <br /> boring/well locations prior to drilling Gregg Drilling and Testing, Inc, <br /> of Martinez,California, performed all drilling activities <br /> Soil borings were advanced using a truck-mounted, hollow-stein auger <br /> drilling technique Samples were collected with a split-spoon sampler <br /> measuring 2-Inches in diameter and 18 inches in length Soil samples <br /> were collected every 5 feet from ground surface down to the water table, <br /> approximately 38 feet below ground surface (bgs) Soil samples collected <br /> for laboratory analyses were placed in brass tubes,capped with Teflon <br /> tape and sealed with a polyethylene lid An ERM geologist recorded <br /> lithologic classifications using the Unified Soil Classification System on <br /> soil boring logs All soil samples were screened for volatile organic <br /> compounds (VOCs) in the field with a photoionization detector (PID) <br /> PID screening results and soil classifications are presented on soil boring <br /> logs included as Appendix A Drill cuttings were drummed and <br /> temporarily stored on site. <br /> ERM submitted representative soil samples for laboratory analysis based <br /> on PID screening and field observations Analysis of soil samples was <br /> performed to define the horizontal and vertical extent of impact All <br /> samples submitted for laboratory analysis were labeled and placed in a <br /> . cooled ice chest for shipment Soil samples were submitted for <br /> laboratory analysis of the following compounds. <br />
