The compounds
detected inclue.e the total volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (I-VPH) and each of the BTX
aromatic hydrocarbons. Concentrations of TVPH and BTX compounds are reported in
nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml).
Concentration levels ranged from 90,O00 ng/ml in SG-5 at the south end of the tank to 0.07
ng/mI at sample SG-14, the most westerly sample collected. Within 10 feet of the gasoline
tank excavation, samples SG-1, SC-S, and SG-19 were the only samples with TVPH
concentrations greater than 10 ng/ml and were reported to be 26, 40,000 and 150 ng/ml,
respectively. Samples collected to the south of the tank, SG-6 to SG-9 were relatively
consistent and averaged 6.3 ng/rail :VPH_ With the exception of the threes mples with
relatively high concentrations near the tank excavation, and the head space analysis at SG-
17, levels of BTX were below 5.0 ng/ml. The reported soil gas concentrations are used as
a relative indicator of soil and/or groundwater contamination and are not to be confused
with total soil volatile organic compound concentrations.
Figures 3 through 6 present the contoured soil gas concentrations for TVPH,benzene, toluene,
and xylenes, respectively. Similar distribution of TVPH and BTX compounds are indicated
and centered predominantly around the tank excavation area. The data suggests that the
contaminant plume has migrated about 10 feet towards the northwest from the tank area.
A complete Iisting of field analytical data as presented by Optimal Technologies, Inc. is
presenter) in Appendix A.
