f ;
ANALYTICAL QUALITY CONTROL
Quality control measurements verify the integrity of the
analytical results, while the goal of all quality control
procedures remains constant, specific quality control
procedures vary from method to method, and to some extent,
with matrix type. Each analyst is responsible for a thorough
understanding of the goal of the Quality Control Program, as
well as how the program is implemented 2n each method. The
analyst is also responsible for the documentation of all
— quality control measurements associated with a particular
method. All documentation is kept in a bound notebook and
securely stored for a minimum of 10 years.
m
c3engral Requirements
Sequoia Analytical adheres to the duality control procedures
set cut in SW-846 Chapter 1, Revisio: 1, 2987 for the
majority of analytical procedures. Saquaia also adheres to
any additional quality control procedures set out in a
particular method. Other method references may include the
California Title 22 Code, 4alifornia AB 1803, Code of Federal
Regulations 40, and Standard Methods, 16th Edition.
Accuracy measurements are performed every 20 samples or once
every analytical batch per matrix type, whichever is fewer.
— An environmental sample of the appropriate matrix for the
analytical batch is spiked with a known quantity of the
artalyte(s) and the % recovery documented (Figure 9) .
pre^ision measurements are performed at the same frequency by
repeating the spike in a field duplicate of the originally
spiked sample. The % deviation between the two s eked
duplicates is documented (Figure 10) . Both the history of
accuracy and the history for precision are charted in the
analysts, Q.C. notebook (Figure 11) .
k .' Acceptance limits for accuracy and precision are based an ±2
standard deviations from the average of the mostrecent 20
entries Yor each parameter unless otherwise specified by the
EPA method. A reagent blank is also run at the same
frequency as spikes and duplicates.
Each analyst is responsible for proper instrument
r
I
