•
SAttachment II contains a summary table which includes analytical data and emission and
extraction rates, copies of figures showing the VES layout, copies of field monitoring logs, and
copies of laboratory reports
Additional Soil Borin s
1 Smith Environmental proposes to dn11 a total of seven exploratory soil borings to depths ,lust
above the water table During second quarter 1995 the water table was measured at
approximately 60 feet bgs Soil samples will be collected every 5 feet and monitored in the field
with a flame ionization detector (FID). Based on visual inspection of samples and FID readings,
up to four soil samples from each boring will be submitted to a state-certified laboratory for
' analysis of TPHg, BTEX, and total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd). The proposed
boring locations and sample intervals will provide sufficient data in order to characterize the
condition of the soil at the site and determine a mass volume of residual hydrocarbons remaining
' in the soil at the site (Figure 2) The rationale for the boring locations is listed below.
• Three soil borings will be located in the immediate vicinity of the former gasoline UST,
' adjacent to soil borings B-1, B-2 (MW-1), B-3 (MW-2), B-5, B-15 (VEW-2), and B-16
(VEW-3) These locations were chosen due to the elevated concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons detected in the samples collected from these borings
• One soil boring will be located adjacent to boring B-17 (VEW-4) Low levels of
benzene, toluene, and total xylenes, less than 0 15 parts per million (ppm) were detected
in soil at depths from 9 5 to 50 feet bgs at this location TPHd was also detected at 2 4
ppm. A boring in this location will determine the radius of influence of the VES and
extent of hydrocarbons, if any, north of the former UST
' • will located ad adjacent to bone B-14 VEW-1 Low levels of
One soil boring wi be ,l g ( )
' benzene, toluene, and total xylenes, less than 0 014 ppm, were detected in soil at depths
from 10 5 to 41 feet bgs at this location A boring in this location will determine the
radius of influence of the VES and extent of hydrocarbons, if any, east of the former
' UST
• One soil boring will be located in the vicinity of borings B-12 (MW-5) and B-18
Concentrations of BTEX in either of these locations were less than 0 033 ppm at depths
from 40 to 70 feet bgs A boring in this location will determine the extent of
hydrocarbons, if any, south of the UST
' • One soil boring will be located adjacent to boring B-6 (MW-3) Low levels of benzene,
toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes, less than 0 038 ppm, were detected in soil at
' depths from 20 to 65 feet bgs at this location A boring in this location will determine
the radius of influence of the VES and extent of hydrocarbons, if any, in this direction
' • All other bonngs contained either low or nondetectable concentrations of petroleum
hydrocarbons and soil confirmation borings are not warranted at these locations Borings
B-7 through B-10 contained TPHd at concentrations less than 17 ppm Borings B-11
(MW-4), and B-20 through B-24 (MW-6) were nondetect Boring B-13 contained BTEX
' N%054006%LETfERS\ADDWKPL LTR 2
