SMTH SITE SAFETY PLAN
I
i
' FACILITY BACKGROUND
Two underground tanks (10,000 gallon diesel and 1,000 gallon gasoline) and associated
' dispensers and piping were removed in 1990. Twenty-eight soil borings (B-1 through B-28)
have been drilled at the site, and 6 groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-6)
and 8 vapor extraction wells (VEW-1 through VEW-8) have been installed in the borings.
' Depth to groundwater ranges from about 67 to 71 feet below ground surface (bgs).
Groundwater flow direction is generally toward the northeast. Both soil and groundwater
' exceed regulatory limits in selected areas. A soil vapor extraction system consisting of a
thermal oxidizer, and three vapor extraction wells is currently in operation.
WORK PLAN
t Task One: SMTH will supervise the advancement of three soil borings in the vicinity the
former underground storage tank. Soil samples will be collected every five
feet and screened with a flame ionization detector. Subsequent to sample
collection, the borings will be grouted to the surface with a neat cement
grout. Any soil cuttings generated during sampling activities will be
stockpiled on site pending analytical results of soil samples.
1
1
PAGE 2
1
