Coca-Cola Enterprises - West
UMC Job No 90054 03
5.4.5 Inlet and Outlet Plenums
The inlet and outlet plenums are designed to provide the most efficient flow distribution into
' and out of the porous bed and are constructed of externally stiffened carbon steel sheets. The
plenum walls are internally insulated
i5.4.6 Bed Casing Insulation
The bed casing is internally nisulated with 8 to 12 inches of compressed fiber which is
temperature rated at 2,600° Fahrenheit. The insulation is located between the bed material and
the casing wall to assure that the insulation cannot be displaced, causing hot spots
5.4.7 Casing Access O enin s
i The top surface of the upper plenum is constructed so that access to the heat transfer media is
available
5.4.8 In-Bed Heating Elements
In-bed heating elements are located near the center of the bed for total coverage and require a
230 volt, three-phase, 60 hertz power supply The elements are made from a high temperature
' alloy which can withstand wide temperatures of up to 2550° Fahrenheit. When heated, the
resistance heating elements form a self-protective oxide laver on their surface.
1
5.4.9 Process Flow Control Valves
' The unit contains four pneumatically actuated control valves which are used to reverse the
direction of flow of the process stream through the combustion bed.
i
5.4.10 System Controls and Instrumentation
iA control panel is included for the unattended, automatic operation of the unit. The panel meets
all electrical codes and is capable of shutting down the system in the event of the following
' conditions
o Bed temperature below 1,800°Fahrenheit
22
