Appendix E.1:Data Usability Summary
• The MS/MSD prepared from groundwater sample SB-26-W-82-080815 had%Rs below
the acceptance criteria for TPHd with silica gel, anthracene, benzo(k)fluoranthene,
benzo(a)pyrene, indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene, dibenz(a,h)anthracene, and
benzo(g,h,i)perylene. The analytes were qualified E in the sample for a potential low
bias.
• The MS/MSD prepared from groundwater sample SB-30-W-35-081121 had%Rs below
the laboratory control limits for the following PAHs: naphthalene, anthracene,
benzo(a)pyrene, indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene, dibenz(a,h)anthracene, and
benzo(g,h,i)perylene. The compounds were qualified E in the sample for a potential low
bias.
• The MS prepared from groundwater sample SB-25-W-35-080818 had%Rs above the
acceptance criteria for nitrate, nitrite, and sulfate. Nitrate and nitrite were not detected in
the sample and no data qualified. Sulfate was detected in sample SB-25-W-35-080818;
however, the MS %R was 111 percent, 1 percent above the control limit of 110 percent.
The associated sulfate result was not qualified because the result is not expected to be
biased by this marginal exceedence.
Internal Standard Recoveries
Internal standard recoveries were not reviewed as part of this evaluation, however; the laboratory
noted that the internal standard area peaks were outside the control limits for BTEX analysis for
soil sample SB-38-S-42.5-081125. The laboratory re-analyzed the sample and the areas were
again outside control limits, indicating a matrix effect. No BTEX compounds were detected in
the sample. The results were qualified E for a potential low bias.
Representativeness
Representativeness was assessed through the evaluation of method blank samples, trip and
equipment blank samples, chain-of-custody(COC) forms, preservation, and holding times.
Method Blank Results
Laboratory method blanks were evaluated for any detection above the laboratory MDL. Target
analytes were not detected in any method blanks with the following exceptions:
• Phenanthrene was detected below the program reporting limit in two method blanks
associated with groundwater samples SB-18-W-080811, SB-19-W-080812, SB-22-W-
080813, SB-22-WD-080813, SB-25-W-35-080818, SB-27-W-36-080818, and equipment
blank QA_Screen-R-080804. The detected concentrations in the samples were greater
than 10 times the amount detected in the blank and no data were qualified. Phenanthrene
was detected within a similar concentration in equipment blank QA—Screen-R-080804
and the result was qualified E.
• Phenanthrene was detected between the MDL and LOQ at 0.98 gg/kg in the method
blank associated with soil samples SB-26-S-9-080815 and SB-26-S-83.5-080815. The
detected concentrations in the samples were greater than 10 times the amount detected in
the blank, so no flags were applied.
• Benzo(a)pyrene and dibenz(g,h,i)perylene were detected above the program reporting
limits in the method blank associated with groundwater samples SB-26-W-82-080815,
SB-24B-W-39-080814, SB-23-W-39-080814, and QA-Rinsate_Blank-R-080815.
