• 9.0 SITE CONTROL MEASURES AND DECONTAMINATION
PROCEDURES
needed to minimize the possibility of
Contamination control procedures are p Y
transferring hazardous substances from the site These procedures consist of site control
measures (the delineation of work zones, communications, and site security) and
decontamination procedures (necessary for both personnel and equipment) Contaminants
possibly uncovered during sampling operations must not be transferred outside the work zone
unless properly containerized, and must be removed from clothing, personnel, and equipment
i
prior to relocation from that zone This section discusses site control measures and
decontamination procedures to be used at 35500 Welty Road, Vernalis
E,
9.1 Site Control Measures
i
Site control measures will be enforced to prevent or reduce the migration of
potentially contaminated materials and to prevent unauthorized personnel into the Radian
designated work area The SHSO will clearly define and identify the work zones based on
several area-specific criteria, including physical features of the work area, wind direction, and
results of air monitoring Results of periodic air monitoring with direct reading instruments will
be used to determine the protection level and whether work stoppage is necessary Table 4
(Respiratory Protection Action Levels) will be used to determine working conditions Should a
contaminated hot spot or soil be encountered during sampling, the SHSO will specify whether
any upgrade in personal protection will be required ,
Radian work zones will be delineated around specific work areas which may pose
potential exposure to the hazards described in Section 5 0 The SHSO will identify the work
zones during mobilization of the drilling rig at each planned location The exclusion zones (EZ)
will be demarcated with warning tape or appropriate materials (e g , bamcades, etc ) to keep
unauthorized personnel away from the work area The exclusion zone will be bordered by a
• contaminant reduction zone (CRZ) in which worker decontamination will take place A support
ti
zone or clean area will be designated outside of the CRZ The support zone will serve as access
9-1
