SECOR
Ms. Devra Lewis
January 9, 2004
Page 5
• One three-inch diameter steel pipe trending northwest to southeast was located at the west
end of the excavation at a depth of approximately 57 inches bgs.
• A group of five three-inch diameter steel pipes trending north to south were located in the
middle of the excavation at a depth of approximately 57 inches bgs.
• One five-inch diameter steel pipe trending northwest to southeast was located at the east
end of the excavation at a depth of approximately 42 inches bgs.
EX-1-C: This excavation was performed in an area where the utility locator lost the signal from the
steel pipelines located at the west end of EX-1. The four three-inch diameter steel pipelines located
at the west end of EX-1 were located in this excavation at a depth of approximately 24 inches bgs,
with 90 degree elbows that trended the pipes to the east. The utility locator found the end of the
pipelines approximately eight to ten feet from the 90 degree elbows. This area was excavated and
the ends of the four pipelines were located. The four pipes were capped with wood plugs. During the
excavation two of the pipes were disconnected. The pipes did not leak any product and appeared to
be empty(photos 20 and 21). Soil encountered consisted of fill material (clay with bricks, rocks, and
concrete) and gray hydrocarbon staining was observed in the excavation beginning at a depth of
approximately 20 inches bgs.
EX-5-A: This excavation was performed in an area where the utility locator lost the signal to the
south from the steel pipelines located in EX-5. The pipelines located in EX-5 were not found,
however six additional pipes (described below) were located (photos 22 through 24). Soil
encountered consisted of fill material (clay with concrete, bricks, wood, and asphalt). Gray
hydrocarbon staining was observed in the excavation beginning at a depth of approximately 36
inches bgs.
• One four-inch diameter steel pipe trending northwest to southeast was located at the south
end of the excavation at a depth of approximately 40 inches bgs. The pipe was open ended
and filled with two to three inches of soil. The soil was dry and exhibited a slight oily sheen
when placed in water.
• A group of five four-inch diameter steel pipes trending north to south were located in the
middle of the excavation at a depth of approximately 50 inches bgs.
EX-6-B: This excavation was performed in an area where the utility locator lost the signal in the north
from the steel pipelines located in EX-5. The end of the pipelines located in EX-5 were not found,
however one four-inch diameter steel pipe trending north to south was located at a depth of
approximately 46 inches bgs. The north part of the pipe had a"T", three inch diameter steel riser, 90
degree elbow, and a three-inch diameter steel pipe that trended to the west (photo 25). Soil
encountered consisted of fill material (clay with concrete, bricks, and gravel). Gray hydrocarbon
staining was observed in the excavation beginning at a depth of approximately 24 inches bgs.
EX-9-A: This excavation was performed in an area where the utility locator lost the signal to the
northwest from the steel pipelines located in EX-9. The end of the pipelines located in EX-9 were not
found, however three additional pipes (described below) were located (photo 26). Soil encountered
consisted of fill material (clay with concrete, bricks, electrical conduit). Gray hydrocarbon staining
was observed in the excavation beginning at a depth of approximately 36 inches bgs.
• One eight-inch diameter steel pipe trending northwest to southeast was located in the middle
of the excavation at a depth of approximately 61 inches bgs.
• One four-inch diameter steel pipe trending east to west was located at the east end of the
excavation at a depth of approximately 58 inches bgs.
Stockton Parcel 2A Utility Search Report
