<br />Guide Specifications—Jacketed Steel Underground Storage Tanks
<br />Short Form
<br />The contractor shall provide a Jacketed Steel Underground Storage
<br />tank consisting of structural innerwall and a semi-rigid outerwall, as
<br />shown on drawings. The primary vessel shall be a U.L labeled, steel
<br />underground storage tank and the secondary containment vessel shall
<br />be a Tank Jacket, as manufactured by Total Containment, Inc.
<br />Tanks shall be tested and installed in accordance with the manufac-
<br />turers published installation instructions and only approved bedding
<br />and backfill material may be used.

<br />Construction
<br />Primary Storage Vessel: Shall be a steel underground storage tank,
<br />all welded construction in accordance with the requirements of UL -58
<br />and tested and labeled accordingly.
<br />Secondary Containment Vessel: At the factory, a 2 psi air pressure
<br />and soap test shall be performed to detect any pinhole leaks. An air
<br />pressure soap test, not more than 1 psi, shall be performed at the job -
<br />site, before installation. After installation, before backfilling to grade, an
<br />air pressure hold test shall be performed no greater than 2 psi.
<br />Integrity Testing
<br />Primary Storage Vessel: At the factory, a 5 psi air pressure and soap
<br />test shall be performed to detect any pinhole leaks. If required, a 5 psi
<br />air pressure hold test may be performed after installation before
<br />backfilling to grade.
<br />Secondary Containment Vessel: At the factory, a 2 psi air pressure
<br />and soap test shall be performed to detect any pinhole leaks. An air
<br />pressure soap test, not more than 1 psi, shall be performed at the job -
<br />site, before installation. After installation, before backfilling to grade, an
<br />air pressure hold test shall be performed no greater than 2 psi.
<br />Licensed Manufacturer:
<br />Construction Materials
<br />Primary Storage Vessel: Shall be a prime grade steel as required by
<br />U.L, ASME, API, N.F.P.A. 30 and U.F.C.
<br />Secondary Containment Vessel: Shall be fabricated of a high density
<br />polyethelene, 100 mils in thickness.
<br />Product Compatibility
<br />Both the primary storage vessel and the secondary containment vessel
<br />shall be compatible with gasoline, gasohol, ethanol, methanol, jet fuel,
<br />av-gas, kerosene, diesel fuel, motor oil at ambiant underground
<br />temperatures; or used for fuel oil not to exceed 150°F.
<br />Interstitial Fluid Migration
<br />There shall be an interstitial space between the primary storage. vessel
<br />and secondary containment vessel created by high density
<br />polyethelene stand-off mesh with a highilow profile to allow 100% fluid
<br />migration, under maximum loads, between the walls.
<br />Corrosion Protection
<br />The primary storage vessel (steel) shall provide striker plates under
<br />each fitting to eliminate internal impact corrosion. The secondary con-
<br />tainment vessel shall totally isolate the primary storage vessels from
<br />stray electrical currents as well as the environment. A sufficient quan-
<br />tity of hydrated lime shall be inserted within the interstitial space so as
<br />to raise the ph level to above 10.
<br />Monitoring Access
<br />The secondary containment vessel shall provide a monitoring access
<br />fitting for insertion of a continuous monitoring probe. This fitting shall
<br />be located at the lower end of the sloped tank.
