8 PIPING
All internal piping must be at least 4 inches (10 cm)
from'the bottom of the tank. The I.D. of the 550-1,000
gallon (2.1-3.8 cu. meters) tank is 48 inches (121.9 cm).
The B.D. of the 6 foot (1.8 meters) diameter tanks of
2,000-6,000 gallons (7.6-22.8 cu. meters) is 71.5 inches
(181.6 cm). The I.D. of the 2,000-12,000 gallon (6.1-45
cu. meters) tank is 91.5 inches (232.4 cm) and the I.D.
of the 15,000-20,000 gallon (57-76 cu. meters) tank is
119.375 inches (303.2 cm). All tanks must be vented to
atmospheric pressure.
SSUMPS
if tank has a sump, extra care must be exercised not to
rest the tank on the sump prior to installation.
When installing a tank with a sump, the 12 inches (30
crn) of bottom bedding must have an 8 inch (17.5 cm)
c!eep x 24 inch (60 cm) diameter hole centered at the
sump location. After setting the tank, the void must be
I1and backfilled and tamped.
@22 FILLING THE TANK
ie tank may be filled with water or product after the
ackfill is even with the top of the tank. Only under wet
`:ole conditions as described in Item 8, should water or
product be added before the backfill is even with the top
of the tank. Also, when filling the tank with water or
p; oduct, make sure the tank is adequately vented.
CAUTION: The ballast level in the tank must not e -
baco.e the water level in the hole during the ballast
procedure when sinking tank in a wet hole.
1ADDING 10WKSEXISTING IT
Additional Xerxes Century -Cast FRP Tanks can be in-
stalled at existing locations if proper foundation support
exists. The method of installation is the responsibility of
the owner. It is required, however, that one of the follow-
ing methods be used. The preferred method is to install
a new tank in a separate hole at least 3 feet (1 meter)
from the original hole. Caution must be exercised in
keeping unusual surface loads off existing tanks. The
natural barrier of undisturbed soil between tanks must
be maintained
If this method is not practical, additional tanks may be
buried in the same installation hole. After emptying ex-
isting tanks to less than one-quarter capacity, remove
the surface pad. Enlarge the excavation for the new
tank, leaving as much backfill as possible around exist-
ing tanks. It may be necessary to install shoring to make
sure that existing tanks do not move and that sufficient
backfill remains. The new tank must be installed by fol-
lowing the procedures
in this guide.
