ER
Phil-Tite Protocol 0 Gallon Capacity (Volume) Testin the 85000 Series Spill
Collector
• Check the foam filter (602026001) for any debris. Clean or replace this filter.
This foam filter is available from FFS. Note: If the foam filter is wet, remove and
squeeze out any liquid. Let air dry for several minutes before re -installing. The
purpose of the foam filter is to catch and stop any debris, grit, gravel, dirt, etc.,
from reaching the drain valve and drain holes and blocking them causing a leak.
This filter will greatly improve the longevity and proper operation of the drain
valve assembly.
• Reinstall the drain valve and handle assembly following the shut off collar
instructions. Check the drain valve handle for proper operation. Re -adjust if
necessary.
Equipment Required for Liquid Capacity (Volume) Testing
For testing capacities of containers, Weights & Measures suggested using a bottom
drain Prover or Slicker or equivalent. Volumetric Test Measures (designed for testing
metered outputs) are not approved by Weights & Measures for capacity testing
containers.
Suggested equipment you can use to accurately measure containers for 5 gallons
capacity are: 5 gallon National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) compliant
bottom drain Provers or equivalent. See photos of Provers below.
Liquid Capacity Testing Process:
• Using a tape measure, check 4 to 6 places around the circumstance of the stainless
steel sleeve to ensure the black spill bucket is set to a minimum of 4 " or more
below the top of the stainless steel sleeve as shown in CARIB EO VR -101-X,
Exhibit 2, Figure 2A.
• Install a 4" expansion plug inside the spill bucket riser. Locate this plug at the
bottom of the spill bucket riser just above the drop tube. This will keep product/water
from pouring into the tank during testing. The vapor recovery spill bucket does not
require an expansion plug as long as the vapor swivel adaptor is installed.
• Locate the Prover near the spill collector being tested. Position the Prover's hose
over the spill collector being tested.
1. Using cold tap water or product, fill the Prover (using a hose, other
containers, etc.) to the 5 gallon mark/line or top. Let the product/water
Q's settle for a moment and check the product/water level.
mo &A
