Phil-Tite Protocol for 5 GO Capacity (Volume) Testing for th*000 Series Spill
Collector
Tolerances: The Phil-Tite Styrofoam spacer can be below the stainless steel sleeve
rim/lip any amount and can be above the stainless steel sleeve rim no more than 1/4"
and should be level to within a '/4".
• If these tolerances are met the spill collector has passed the 5 gallon capacity test.
No further testing is required.
• Complete a spill collector testing worksheet and send a copy to the local COPA.
Prior to Testing:
• Remove the 14" Cast Iron cover that is over the spill collector.
• Remove the Black (Fill) debris bucket. This will allow you to access the drain
valve handle.
• Remove the fill dust cap or vapor recovery dust cap. The EBW, OPW or
Morrison dust caps are removed before making a delivery and will displace over
8 ounces of liquid. They must be removed prior to liquid testing.
• For all liquid volume test's, it is imperative you drain any residue liquid that may
be in the spill collector prior to adding any liquid. Note: It is very important to
perform this step prior to performing any liquid test. Liquid under the screen
assembly can not be seen from above the bucket. Operate the drain valve
handle close to open several times to ensure no liquid is trapped in the foam
filter. Ensure the foam filter is free of any debris and liquid. The purpose of the
foam filter is to trap and hold any debris (grit, dirt, sand, etc.) from reaching the
drain valve and drain holes and blocking them. Replace the foam filter if it is
torn, has tears, and/or damage. Contact FFS for replacement foam filters P/N
602026001.
• Check the depth of the black spill bucket inside the stainless steel sleeve. With a
tape measure, measure 4 to 6 places around the circumference of the stainless
steel sleeve from the top of the black spill bucket to the top of the stainless steel
sleeve at finish grade or top of the manway cover. This measurement should be
a minimum of 4" as shown in CARB Executive Order VR -101-X, Exhibit 2, Figure
2A and 2B. Note: Stated in Figures 2A and 2B - "To achieve 5 gallons capacity -
4" min". This is not an average measurement, but a minimum measurement. A
larger distance will achieve greater capacity. This measurement (4" min.)
assumes that the OPW or Morrison Dust Cap and the black Debris Bucket are
REMOVED.
• Preferred depth of the black spill bucket is 4'/2" below the top of the stainless
steel sleeve or finish grade - Using Phil-Tite's 85000 Series Spill Collector
Installation Instructions with the Styrofoam spacer supplied with each spill
collector shipped, the installed depth of the black spill bucket should be from 4
7/16" to 4 '/2" below the top of the stainless steel sleeve or finish grade. As
stated above in the dry test method.
• Remove the drain valve and handle assembly (see Shut-off collar instructions)
and clean any debris that may be under the filter screen. Remove any liquid and
debris (sand, grit, dirt, dust, etc.). Check the drain valve "O" Ring (85035) for any
wear, tear and debris. Replace if necessary.
3 of 7
