El
Sampling was conducted in the afternoon of September 19, 1996 and was observed by
Mr. Michael Kith of the SJCPHS. At the request of the SJCPHS a soil sample was
collected from beneath both ends of each tank by the use of an excavator scooping into
undisturbed soil at selected locations and bringing up a volume of relatively
undisturbed soil to the surface for examination and sampling. Excavation bottom
samples were obtained from soil removed from approximately two feet into the native
soil at a depth of approximately 15 feet below street level.
All soil samples were collected using a precleaned brass liner measuring two inches in
diameter and six inches long by pressing it into the soil by hand until the liner was full.
lippicirl, 11111 !!1111,11 11111111111111 11 1111
caps, placed into a sealable plastic bag and put into a precooled cooler containing ice
for transport to the analytical laboratory.
Samples collected from beneath the former 10,000 gallon gasoline UST, T-1, were
identified as T1-1 from the northeast end (nearest Thornton Avenue) and T1-2 from the
southwest end. Samples collected from beneath the former 10,000 gallon gasoline
UST, T-2, were identified as T2-1 from the northeast end and T2-2 from the southwest
end. Samples collected from beneath the former 8,000 gallon gasoline UST, T-3, were
identified as T3-1 from the northeast end and T3-2 from the southwest end. Samples
collected from beneath the former 8,000 gallon diesel fuel UST, T-4, were identified as
T4-1 from the northeast end and T4-2 from the southwest end (see Figure 2).
The soil-
from beneath former tanks T-1, T-2 and T-3 were a reddish brown sandy clay
to clayey sand from which no gasoline or diesel odor was noted when the soil was
brought to the surface for sampling.
