a
An alternate method of pipe end preparation is sanding with
40-60 grit sandpaper to remove all surface gloss. Belt sanders
or a coarse cut flat file may be used. The sanded length must
be a minimum of 33/4".
B. Pipe Assembly
The containment pipe must be positioned over the product
pipe prior to bonding of the product pipe. After testing of the
product pipe, the containment fittings should be installed and
the containment system tested.
Typically, the length of the containment system is determined
from:
L = (OAL of Product Piping) – (B)
NOTE: When terminating with a concentric reducer, use the
C dimension instead of the B dimension in the table below.
(See Figure 2)
Figure 2
Adhesive — Apply to
both halves and to pipe
Q 1/16" minimum thickness.
1?1*-..*'. Where possible, place containment fitting
halves under the product fittings. (See Figure 3)
Q
r_tZZ Lay out system
? with all dry joints.
Figure 3
C. Fittings Assembly
All containment fittings consist of two halves with flanged tabs',
as shown in Figure 3.
Fittings are assembled with 1/4"— 20 NC hex head bolts along ,
with Smith Fiberglass Products adhesive. (NOTE: Fittings!L
are supplied by Smith Fiberglass Products without!
hardware.) The fitting bonding surfaces are pre -sanded in the
factory. Two-piece secondary containment fittings must..
be bonded with a greater amount of adhesive than is
normally used with the bell and spigot Joints of product;'
piping. (See Figure 4) 2
Hex head bolts are 1/4" — 20 NC x 1.0" long.
Standard nuts are 1/4" — 20 NC.
All washers are 1/4" standard flat (2 per hole).
D. Bonding and Assembly
(For Containment Piping)
Use only DS -7014 or DS -7069 adhesive manufactured by
Smith Fiberglass Products for installation of Smith Fiberglass
Products containment piping systems.
TABLE II
Bonding of Containment Fittings
DS -7014 Kit DS -7069 Kit
Type of Fitting (Approx. Fittings per Kit) (Approx. Fittings per Kit)
Refer to bonding procedures in Manual 1055 for adhesive
mixing and surface cleaning.
Thoroughly mix all of the adhesive base with all of the adhe-
sive hardener. Do not attempt to split a kit. The adhesive
should have a uniform consistency and flow smoothly off the
mixing stick.
Filler must be added to thicken the adhesive. The filler is
packaged in premeasured quantities for use with
DS -7014 or DS -7069 adhesive kits and is available from
your local Smith Fiberglass Products distributor.
Filler should be added in three steps, thoroughly mixing
between additions. All of the filler in the bag should be
used. NOTE: Adhesive and hardener must be thoroughly
mixed before adding the filler.
3"
4"
3"
4"
6"
90° Elbow
11/t
1
21k
11h
1
45° Elbow
2
1
3
2
1
Tee
1
1
2
11/2
1
Coupling
2
1
3
2
i
Termination
Concentric Reducer
2
1
3
2
1
Refer to bonding procedures in Manual 1055 for adhesive
mixing and surface cleaning.
Thoroughly mix all of the adhesive base with all of the adhe-
sive hardener.
