The pipe inspector should take precautions for his/her <br />personal safety and protection against flying debris and also <br />el against the whipping action of the pipe which can be the <br />result of the sudden release of stored energy. Goggles should be worn <br />to protect against flying debris. <br />D. Avoid personal contact with the piping system ;while it is <br />pressurized during testing, except for the actual checking of <br />• the joints for leaks. Absolutely no one should be ini the trench <br />with the pipe while it is being initially pressurized for leak, testing. <br />E. Do not straddle the <br />pipe during <br />[• testing. <br />F. Do not stand at the end of the piping system; where it <br />changes directions, while the pipe is being checked for <br />• leaks. CAUTION: FAILURE TO STRICTLY FOLLOW THESE <br />INSTRUCTIONS CAN RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY. j <br />G. Smith Fiberglass Products recommends that after the piping system <br />has passed the 50 psig pressure test, the contractor should reduce the <br />product line pressure to a pressure of not more than 25 ;,psig and <br />maintain this pressure until all paving is completed. Leave the pressure <br />gauge on each line for inspection. The contractor shouldcheck the <br />gauge daily to verify that the pipe is holding pressure. <br />XII. In some cases <br />greater depths may be required by the authority having jurisdiction or by <br />local codes. <br />The maximum allowable burial depth is 23 feet for burial in moderately <br />compacted soils which do not contain clay and where the soil modulus is at <br />least 1000 psi. <br />Minimum burial depths shown in the above burial table are acceptpble if, and <br />only if, the ditch width is2.5 feet or less; the paved surfaces extenj at least <br />feet on either side of the ditch; the fill material Is clean sand orY.'►, ,to %" pea <br />gravel; and 6" of the fill material is placed under the pipe as bedding <br />material. <br />Remaining backfill above sand or pea gravel amounts as shown! in the last <br />column of burial table can be native soil if desired. <br />Multiple lines in the same ditch should be separated by one pipe diameter or <br />6", whichever is greater, unless special precautions are taken to insure that <br />backfill material is placed underand around the pipe. With these conditions, <br />the lines may be as close as 4".
