WEAVER <br />CONTRACTING uZu XXXXX, CA CCCCC <br />• Nomex Coveralls (6oz). <br />• Sturdy work boots. <br />• Hard hats. <br />• Safety glasses. <br />6.8 Initial Levels of Protection <br />Based upon the nature of activities during construction activities at ARCO service station # 000, the <br />initial level of protection to be used is Level D with a contingency upgrade to Level D Modified. The <br />initial level of protection is defined as that level in which work commences. <br />If contamination is encountered, air monitoring, using direct-reading instruments will be performed to <br />determine if an upgrade or downgrade is warranted. All decisions concerning the level of protection <br />will be based upon a conservative interpretation of the information p rovided by air monitoring results, <br />environmental results and other appropriate information. <br />7.0 HANDLING OF HYDROCARBON CONTAMINATED SOIL <br />7.1 Excavation Size <br />The excavation shall be conducted in fifty foot by fifty foot or smaller sections to minimize exposure of <br />soil, potentially contaminated by hydrocarbon VOC's. <br />7.2 Soil Monitoring <br />During excavation, monitoring of the soil shall be conducted to measure VOC's at a distance of no <br />more than three inches above the freshly excavated soil by using an Organic Vapor Analyzer (OVA). <br />7.3 V.O.C. Contaminated Soil <br />VOC contaminated soil is a soil which registers at levels or 50 PPMV or more when measured with an <br />OVA at a distance of no more than three inches above excavated and exposed soils. <br />7.4 V.O.C. Soil Stockpile <br />All VOC contaminated soil shall be stockpiled separately from the non - VOC contaminated soil and <br />covered with plastic. <br />7.5 Stockpile Maintenance <br />Each day, V.O.C. contaminated stockpiles shall be covered with heavy-duty plastic sheeting, <br />overlapped and secured to withstand prevailing winds. <br />S.J.
