Universal Waste <br /> Universal waste (U-waste) are lower-risk types of hazardous waste and are <br /> regulated under less restrictive management standards than hazardous waste. <br /> California U-waste <br /> Z. Batteries-alkaline, nickel cadmium, lithium ion <br /> 2. Electronic devices (E-waste)-computer monitors, televisions, radios, <br /> calculators and phones <br /> 3. Mercury containing equipment-thermostats, mercury switches, pressure or <br /> vacuum gauges and gas flow regulators <br /> 4. Lamps-Fluorescent, neon, high intensity discharge (HID), mercury vapor, <br /> high pressure sodium and metal halide <br /> 5. Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT)-Vacuum or pressure tubes to convert electrical <br /> signal into a visual image <br /> 6. CRT Glass- Breakage of a CRT <br /> 7. Aerosol cans-Although listed as a U-waste, aerosol cans are managed as <br /> hazardous waste <br /> Manacling U-waste <br /> Never throw the items on the California U-waste list in the garbage. <br /> Batteries shall be managed in a way that prevents releases into the environment. <br /> That means closed container at all times, unless placing batteries into the <br /> container. <br /> • Batteries contain corrosive chemicals that can burn. Because of the <br /> corrosive nature, never store batteries in a metal container. <br />
