R5-2003-0815,
SCHEDULE CONCURRENCE, WESTERN FARM SER VICE, VERNALIS, SAN JOAQ UIN
COUNTY
On 5 March 2003, we provided Western Farm Service (WFS) with a draft monitoring and
reporting program for routine monitoring and remediation pilot study monitoring at its Vernalis
facility, and requested a schedule for further investigation and remediation. We have reviewed
your 14 April 2003 Comments on Draft Monitoring and Reporting Plan and Schedule for Soil
Cleanup letter prepared by your consultant, GeoSyntec Consultants.
We concur with your comments on the draft Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP) and have
incorporated the following changes:
• Western Farm Service, Inc. is the responsible party and reference to Agrium Incorporated is
deleted.
- Reference to pollutants emanating from the property is deleted.
• The term well destruction supersedes well abandonment.
• Annual sampling for pilot study remediation monitoring is to occur in the third quarter to
coincide with the anniversary of Hydrogen Releasing Compound® injection.
• Diagrams illustrating pollutant concentrations replace the requirement for isocontour
concentration maps for constituents of concern.
Monitoring and Reporting Program No. R5-2003-0815 is now in effect and the next semi-annual
monitoring report is due 1 August 2003.
California Environmental Protection Agency
pia Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
