900003OAll CON-14
being excavated in the vicinity of the tank farm. All underground piping
within the tank farm was removed and replaced with piping at or near the
surface about 4 years ago.
Oil is usually obtained from smaller containers (1 and 5 gallon) stored
within the equipment maintenance and repair shop. Oil and hydraulic fluids
are also obtained from three 55-gallon drums located just outside the
shop. The drums sit on concrete and a small trough was constructed beneath
them to contain spillage.
Waste oils are stored in 55-gallon drums. On the day of the site
inspection, 7 waste oil drums were stored on pallets sitting on gravel
along the western boundary of the property. The drums are periodically
picked up for recycle by a commercial contractor. An additional 9 55-
gallon drums were stored in the northwestern corner of the site. These
drums contain gasoline and diesel removed from the underground storage
tanks during tank closure. The drums are awaiting offsite disposal .
A commercial solvent storage and washing tank is located inside the
equipment maintenance and repair shop. The solvent is contained within a
"closed" system and is periodically picked up for recycle by a commercial
contractor.
No underground storage tanks are known to exist at the site at this
time. Three underground storage tanks, including a 5000-gallon and a
10,000-gallon gasoline tank, and a 10,000-gallon diesel tank, were removed
in 1987-1988. Leakage of hydrocarbons was observed at the time of the tank
removal . Affected soils were excavated to a depth of approximately 24
feet. Five soil samples were collected for analysis by Twining Labora-
tories under the supervision of the San Joaquin Local Health District. The
excavation was backfilled with imported fill material and compacted. The
excavated soils were allowed to aerate onsite, near the southeastern
boundary of the site. The aerated soils were disposed of in 1989.
2-8
