Page 8
Cabral-McAdams Property
October 16,2006
Job No. 1828-092.02
Six surface soil samples were collected at the locations S18 through S23 within Area D
(see Plate 6). No visual or olfactory evidence of significant contamination was observed
in soils collected at any of these sampled locations.
March 2006 Soil Sampling
Because notable concentrations of arsenic, lead, and organochlorine pesticides were
detected in some of the soil "screening" samples collected within and near the mentioned
on-site structures in October 2005, we recommended additional soil sampling to further
characterize the lateral and vertical extent of soil contamination within these areas. On
March 29 and 31, 2004 we collected near-surface soil samples at 20 additional locations
(locations S24 through S43); at each of these locations soil samples were collected at the
surface. We also collected soil samples at a depth of one foot from the previous (October
2005) sampling locations S9, SIO, S13, S14, S17, S18, S19, and S22; the previous
surface soil samples from these locations had contained notable concentrations of one or
more of the tested analytes. No visual or olfactory evidence of significant contamination
was observed in soils collected at any of these sampled locations.
September 2006 Soil Sampling
During a June 30, 2006 PEA-Scoping Meeting, the DTSC indicated that additional
deeper soil sampling and analysis for the nematocide 1,2-Dibromo-3-Chloropropane
(DBCP) and organochlorinated pesticides would be necessary at four locations on the
subject property. On September 19, 2005 our firm directed the advancement of four
direct push borings at locations S44 through S47 within the orchard areas (see Plate 2).
Soil samples were collected at a depth of ten feet at locations S45, S46, and S47 and at a
depth of 12 feet at location S44. A duplicate soil sample was collected, also at a depth of
approximately ten feet, at location S45. No visual or olfactory evidence of contamination
was evident in subsurface soils observed at these locations.
LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Soil samples collected during October 2005, March 2006, and September 2006 sampling
activities were submitted to a State-certified laboratory(Sunstar Laboratories, Inc.; ELAP
No. 2250) for analysis for one or more of the following: arsenic, lead, organochlorine
pesticides, total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline, TPH as motor oil, and TPH
as diesel, and the volatile organic compounds benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes (BTEX) and 1,2-Dibromo-3-Chloropropane (DBCP). The laboratory reports are
presented in Appendix A; summaries of the laboratory data are attached as Tables I, Il,
and III.
