DISPOSAL PLAN <br /> The method to recover, reuse, decontaminate, or dispose of materials collected after a release has <br /> taken place varies according to the material released. Any waste resulting from a release response <br /> including recovered product, contaminated soil, contaminated equipment and materials, PPE, <br /> decontamination solutions, spent absorbents, and spent chemicals or sludge will be collected within <br /> appropriate, containers compatible with the contents and stored in designated area(s). Waste <br /> disposal will occur in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations. All permits required to <br /> transport or dispose of recovered materials will be obtained by the organizations contracted for <br /> transportation or disposal. <br /> The site will follow the waste management hierarchy guidelines outlined in the following sections to <br /> the extent feasible: <br /> • Waste Inventory and Tracking <br /> • Waste Classification <br /> • Waste Segregation <br /> • Waste Minimization <br /> • Waste Treatment or Disposal <br /> WASTE INVENTORY & TRACKING <br /> To document the amounts and disposal of waste generated during a spill response, the following <br /> guidelines will be implemented: <br /> • Label all waste containers and identify the source of the waste. <br /> • Identify contents of the containers holding wastes and potential hazards (e.g., reactive, <br /> corrosive, flammable, radioactive, etc.). <br /> • Inventory the type and quantity of all wastes generated from a cleanup operation. <br /> • Document the transport, storage, and final disposal of all wastes generated. <br /> WASTE CLASSIFICATION <br /> Liquid wastes, including both oily and non-oily liquids, and solid wastes, including both oily and non- <br /> oily solid wastes, may potentially result from an oil spill. Different types of wastes are generated by <br /> different cleanup methods. The following are typical wastes expected to be generated during <br /> emergency spill and response: <br /> Oily liquid waste: <br /> • Recovered or skimmed oily mixtures <br /> • Oily wastewater <br /> • Wash waters from decontamination procedures <br /> • Wash waters from cleaning boom and other equipment <br /> Non-oily liquid waste: <br /> • Lab wastes <br /> • Non-oily wastewater <br /> • Spent solvents and chemicals <br /> 2 <br />
