It is bordered by Rough & Ready Island on
its NE shoreline. A fairly narrow, shallow water slough with margin varying from heavily ripped, revegetated
levees to emergent marsh vegetation and mature trees. Snags and shallows are common this medium energy
slough. Several small marshes have developed in the slow bends of the slough in the westerly half.
SEASONAL and SPECIAL RESOURCE CONCERN
Marsh and riparian vegetation zones are of"A" concern year-round. In Nov-Dec Delta Smelt are present in
modest numbers. Winter-run chinook are of modest concern mid Oct- May.
RESOURCES OF PRIMARY CONCERN
Although riparian edge is heavily disturbed due to riprap, there are some significant marshy-riparian remnants,
particularly in the westerly half. Aquatic community is typical for delta. This channel is used by sensitive and
migrating fish species.
Bird life is riverine species including waterbirds and marsh birds.
Other vertebrates are riverine and semiaquatic species which use marshy or riparian patches. Habitat may be
suitable for western pond turtle.
During Nov-Dec Delta Smelt(FT/SE) are present in modest numbers. Salmon smolts pass through this channel.
Winter run chinook smolts are of low to modest concern mid Oct- May. Juvenile and adult striped bass and
warm water fish are typical.
Some sizable emergent vegetation marsh areas in westerly half.
Rare plants have not been found here except for a historic record of Delta tule pea on Rough & Ready Island.
CULTURAL.
