2-021 -A Site Summary- French Camp Slough 2-021 -A <br /> Thomas Guide Location Latitude N Longitude W <br /> County: San Joaquin SF Bay and Delt 3755 121 19.2 <br /> USGSQuad: Stockton West NOAAChart: 18661 SACRAMENTO/SAN JOAQUIN RIVER <br /> Last Page Update: 7/1/1996 <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION: <br /> A six mile+ dead-end slough extending from the mouth on the San Joaquin River easterly with main stem and <br /> branch, Walker Slough, to 1-5 (ACP boundary). Both branches extend well east of 1-5. This locale is a Delta <br /> Master Recreational Plan designated Natural Resource Area with Significant Habitat Values. Habitat varies <br /> from lightly ripped, revegetated levees to pockets of mature riparian growth and occasional berm islands. <br /> Snags, marshy/riparian margins and shallows are common in this low energy slough. It has a 2 mile branch, <br /> Walker Slough. Only about 3 of the 6+ slough miles are west of 1-5. <br /> SEASONAL and SPECIAL RESOURCE CONCERN <br /> Marsh/riparian vegetation zones are of"A" concern year-round. Special Status Species: modest numbers of <br /> Delta smelt in winter. Modest concern for downstream migrant winter-run chinook from mid October through 31 <br /> May. Birds: Swainson's Hawk. <br /> RESOURCES OF PRIMARY CONCERN <br /> Primary habitat at risk is marsh-riparian at this biologically rich site. Habitat varies from light riprap to mature <br /> riparian forest. Aquatic habitat is typical warm water community. <br /> Swainson's hawk (ST) nests here. Other species present typical riverine/riparian habitat: waterbirds, marsh and <br /> shorebirds, canopy and edge bird life, shoreline foragers and aquatic life. <br /> High quality vegetation mix is used by deer, raccoons, muskrat, mink and other mustellids, fox and coyote, <br /> rodents and reptiles and other riverine/riparian species. Habitat may be suitable for western pond turtle. <br /> Modest numbers of Delta Smelt during winter season and downstream migrant salmon. Juvenile and adult <br /> striped bass are typical as are warm water species. <br /> Freshwater invertebrates typical of fresher delta waters. <br /> Emergent and rooted aquatic, marsh and riparian vegetation throughout. <br /> CULTURAL.
