oxygenates: tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), MTBE, di -isopropyl ether (RIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl <br />ether (ETBE), and tertiary amyl methyl ether (TAME) by EPA method 8260B. <br />Combined Support Maintenance Shop (CSMS) <br />Areas of concern at the CSMS are the vehicle wash rack in the north portion of the building, <br />elevated metals and petroleum hydrocarbons in the drainage ditch along the north facility <br />boundary, and two locations of pavement upwelling in the vehicle storage area east of the <br />building. The field activities associated with the pavement upwelling are described in Section <br />3.5. <br />One soil boring (B29) will be advanced adjacent to the vehicle wash rack located inside the north <br />of the CSMS building. The boring will be advanced to a maximum depth of 45 feet. Four soil <br />samples and one grab -groundwater sample will be collected from the boring. The soil and <br />groundwater samples will be analyzed for TPH as hydraulic oil (TPH-ho) and polychlorinated <br />biphenyls (PCBs). <br />Discrete soil samples will be collected at ten locations along the north boundary drainage ditch. <br />At each of the ten locations, samples will be collected at intervals of 0-0.5 feet, 1-1.5 feet and 3- <br />3.5 feet bas. The uppermost samples will be tested for total concentrations of 17 heavy metals <br />(CAM 17 list) using EPA 6000 and 7000 series methods, as well as TPH-d, motor oil (TPHmo), <br />and TPHj by EPA method 8015. If a 0-0.5 foot sample results indicate actionable impact, the <br />underlying samples will be analyzed to assess the extent of impact. <br />In the pavement upwelling areas, the cause for pavement upwelling is not understood. If, during <br />excavation of the upwelling areas, cause for chemical contamination is encountered, soil samples <br />will be collected (one for each upwelling location) for analyzed for the following contaminants: <br />heavy metals (CAM 17 suite); semi -volatile organic compounds (SVOCs); TPH-g, d, j and mo; <br />and BTEX. In addition, the CVRWQCB will be notified of a concern for chemical impact to the <br />subsurface, if encountered. <br />At the former boring location, B 10, near the waste storage area, soil samples will be collected <br />just beneath the pavement section, and at 5 feet bgs. The uppermost sample will be tested for <br />TPH-g, d, mo; BTEX; and SVOCs. The underlying sample will be held pending the results of <br />the shallower sample. At the former sandblasting area, boring location B 11, one soil sample will <br />be collected just beneath the pavement section and analyzed for 17 heavy metals (CAM 17). <br />Operations and Maintenance Shop (OMS) <br />Areas of concern at the OMS comprise the former vehicle fueling station in the parking lot <br />between the OMS and CSMS, and the vehicle wash rack south of the OMS building.
