RECEIVED
JAN 2'6`20,15:1 ,
Health and Safety ENVIRONMENTAL
Sims has an outstanding Safety, Health, Environment, and Community(SHEC) pffLYaT1T'fPFa?jRT'i41:YT
elevated the safety and environmental culture among the employees. Each and every yard
employee wears a hard hat, safety glasses, reflective clothing, and safety, steel-toed and -shank
boots. Employees engaged in the Appliance Area wear this personal protective equipment. They
also have leather and nitrile gloves, A mercury spill lit is stored close by, as well an oil spill kit.
Employees are trained on the emergency response to spills.
Removal and lWanagement of MRSH
The following describes the ability of the facility to properly remove and manage MRSH fi-om
those appliances not received from a certified appliance recycler(CAR).
First, the weiglunaster at the scale of the facility will inspect each load of scrap materials
received at the facility from a non-CAR customer to determine whether it contains any
appliances. Second, a designated inspector will inspect each load of scrap material that contains
any appliances to determine whether each such Appliance within that load may require removal
of Refrigerants, switches, capacitors, ballasts, or waste oil.
The designated inspector then will segregate appliances fi-om the other scrap material, into one
area for those appliances that may contain Refrigerants and waste oil (e.g. refrigerator, freezers,
and air conditioning units) and another area for all other appliances. The facility collects such
appliances in each area in quantities that are reasonable for efficient removal of MRSH by
trained persorinel. Once the MRSH are removed, the facility moves the appliance carcasses into
the general scrap metal handling areas appropriate for such materials..
Equipment Used in Removing and Managing MRSH
A.
