For those Appliances
handled by a designated Contractor, trained facility personnel will remove the other
MRSH. Or,
o The Facility will remove all MRSH on site with its own equipment.
The Contractor or Trained Sims employees will (a) remove Refrigerants and waste halogenated
oil, waste gear oil, capacitors, switches and the like from those Appliances potentially containing
those MRSH and (b) supervise trained facility personnel as they remove Switches, Capacitors,
and Oils from those Appliances containing those MRSH.
Upon removal, the operators will: (a) inspect Capacitors to determine appropriate handling,
storage, and disposition (whether PCB-containing or not); (b) collect Refrigerants in 125-1b gas
cylinders appropriate for the removed Refrigerants; (c) collect the waste halogenated oil separate
froin containers for waste gear oil in containers appropriate for waste oil (e.g., appropriate 55-
gallon drums or above-ground storage tanks); and (d) collect the mercury switches in appropriate
containers (e.g., 5-gallon plastic bucket with lid). Appropriate handling of these MRSH will
include storage in appropriate containers, properly marked, labeled, and stored in accordance
with applicable Universal Waste or hazardous waste requirements.
If Refrigerant removal is not done by Sims employees, the Contractor will remove the
Refrigerants from the facility after each service call and assume responsibility for its disposition,
The facility will properly store and dispose of the (a) waste oils as hazardous waste; (b) Switches
as Universal Wastes; and (c) PCB-containing and the other Capacitors in accordance with TSCA
and applicable California requirements.
Freon is moved to the Freon recycler when 8 full cylinders are accumulated. Freon is not a
hazardous waste. Halogenated oils are kept under the Satellite Accumulation rule and may stay
on site for up to a year and shipped as hazardous waste. Waste oils are usually commingled with
site waste or used oils and are shipped as hazardous waste on a 90-day basis. All other MRSH
are kept under the Satellite Accumulation rule for up to a year. Mercury switches and PCB-
containing capacitors or ballasts are sent as hazardous waste.
Disposal of MRSH
Recovered Freon is sent in 125-1h cylinders to Newcomb Mechanical in Fn.ster C ifu CSA_ All oil
products are sent via Asbury Enviromnental to either Demenno-Kerdoon in Compton or Dixon,
CA.
