Restrictions <br /> • Do not go swimming in any pools, lakes, rivers, oceans, or in a <br /> of tub while your tattoo is healing. The chlorine and the sun <br /> are horrible for a new tattoo. <br /> Submerging your new tattoo in anything is a bad idea. It can absorb fluid and over <br /> saturate complicating the healing process and ultimately ruin the tattoo. All bodies of <br /> water contain bacteria,especially pools and hot tubes. It is ok and recommended that you <br /> wash your tattoo in the shower. <br /> • Do not expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight for any length <br /> of time. <br /> The Sun is the natural enemy of tattoos. Over exposure will lighten your tattoo. It is <br /> especially vulnerable the first few months after getting it. <br /> • Do not pick or scratch your tattoo. <br /> Do not pick at scabs. It will complicate the healing and it will ruin your tattoo. If it itches <br /> just pat it lightly or apply a little cool water to the surface. <br /> • Do not wear invasive or tight clothing. <br /> Depending on the location of your tattoo,your clothing may rub against it causing <br /> irritation and trauma that can ruin your tattoo. Avoid tight fitting pants, shirts,jeans, etc. <br /> • Do not take advice from anyone other than the artist that did <br /> your tattoo. <br /> • Avoid activities or work that would get your tattoo dirty or <br /> expose it to harsh chemicals. <br /> Some examples of this would be painting, gardening, construction,warehouse work and <br /> cleaning with industrial solvents. <br /> • Signs and symptoms of infection: <br /> • Your tattoo may be infected if it has any discharge or secretions leaking from it.
