Aftercare Procedure : Describe the written recommendations and care provided to the client after a body art procedure . List the type of bandages or wrappings provided after a body art procedure . Apply ice to treated area for 10 ,- 30 minutes . Ice helps reduce swelling and aids in healing . Apply A & D ointment or after care balm sparingly five times a day for ten days , using clean cotton swab . DO NOT USE FINGERS . Do not rub off scabs . No cleansing creams , exfoliants or chemicals . Gently cleanse with mild soap after 5 days . Pat area dry . Do not expose to full water pressure . No swimming . Do not expose to sun . Do not sweat or exercise . Procedure for an Accidental Spill : Describe the clean - up and disinfection procedure taken when there is an accidental spill of sharps or biohazardous waste . Put gloves on . Use forceps or tongs to pick up sharps pointing away from you and put back into sharps container . Pour 10 % bleach on area of spill for 10 minutes . Cover spill with paper towel .
