Handle contaminated dressings or peri -pads by wearing <br />gloves and discard dressings into an appropriate <br />container. <br />Urine, Stool and Body Fluids Precautions: <br />1. Wear gloves whenever urine, stool or other body fluids <br />are handled such as when measuring, emptying a <br />container, collecting a specimen or irrigating. <br />Instrument Cleaning Procedures <br />1. Wear heavy latex gloves, apron, mask and eyewear while <br />processing dirty instruments. <br />2. Avoid aerosolization by using the cleaning brush under <br />water. <br />3. Before removing gloves, thoroughly clean them with soap and <br />water and disinfect with 1:10 chlorine solution. <br />Procedures for Handling Infectious Waste <br />1. Infectious waste shall always be kept separate from other <br />waste. <br />2. Always wear gloves, aprons and eyewear when handling <br />infectious materials. <br />3. Infectious materials shall should be placed in a red bag <br />designed and marked for containment of biohazardous <br />materials. Avoid overloading the bags, and be certain that <br />they are firmly tied. <br />4. Deposit sharps into boxes designed for this purpose. When <br />full, place directly into infectious waste containers or <br />autoclave. If sharps are placed in a container for <br />transport by a licensed hauler, the container must have a <br />tightly fitting lid or be taped. <br />
