HANDLING OF INFECTIOUS MATERIALS <br />Page Three <br />5. Any contaminated materials sterilized in an autoclave must <br />be sterilized at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for a period of 30 <br />minutes. A heat indicator must be used to assure adequate <br />sterilization. If all infectious materials are sterilized <br />by autoclave, the facility must still maintain a back-up <br />service with a licensed hazardous waste hauler to <br />accommodate equipment breakdowns. <br />6. Empty suction liners containing body fluids into a rim -flush <br />clinic sink (hopper), and dispose of liners in appropriate <br />containers. <br />7. Infectious materials shall not be stored on the premises for <br />more than seven days. <br />8. Recognizable human anatomical remains shall be bagged and <br />marked separately to be collected by a licensed hauler for <br />incineration. <br />
