L]
4. Engineering will inventory the tubes each odd month of the year. The inventory will include:
a. The number of tubes
b. The respective expiration dates
c. The lot number
D. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
1. Engineering Department will order all necessary PPE which includes the following:
a. Safety Goggles
b. Nitrile and/or heat resistant gloves
c. Gown
2. Staff will always wear PPE during this procedure.
E. Loading of the Medical Waste and Biological Indicator
1. The Engineer verifies the 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack and the Control Spore Tube are from
the same manufacturer and lot number.
2. The date and the lot number for each 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack and Control Spore Tube
are verified prior to giving the 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack to the Environmental Services
(EVS) Aide.
a. If the lot number indicates the 3M Biological Test Packs have expired, they are not to be used,
and the Medical Waste Sterilizer is to be taken out of service until new replacement Test
Packs have been received.
b. Notify the Environmental Health and Safety Department, the Engineering Department, and the
Environmental Services Department.,
3. The EVS Aide loads the chamber half way with red bags enclosed in autoclavable bags. (Each
autoclave bag must be punctured for ventilation) and places the 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack
on the top of the bag in the center of the load, additional bags will be placed on top of the indicator.
The EVS Aide will run the cycle which is approximately 45 minutes of which 30 minutes
must be sterilization at no less than 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
4. After the cycle is complete, and the Sterilizer chamber has been allowed to cool, the EVS Aide
opens the chamber and removes the processed 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack from the .
a. The 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack is allowed to cool prior to handling and processing.
5. The current sterilized load is to be left in the chamber until the incubation test result is confirmed
to be negative.
a. A sign will be placed on the door of the chamber indicating "TEST IN PROGRESS, DO NOT
OPERATE".
F. Incubation and Readout Procedure using the 3 TM AttestTm Auto -Reader
1. While wearing PPE, the EVS Aide opens the 3M Biological Indicator Test Pack and removes the
Biological Indicator Tube.
2. The Engineer then closes the biological cap by pressing down.
Sani-Pak Spore Testing Policy
MEC Approved TED xx/xx/xx Page 2 of 3
