0 0 <br />• <br />KAISERk' 111 e -Central Valley Area <br />3.5.1. Report all spills to the Department Manager or Designee. This notified <br />person will then notify the EH&S Department. <br />3.5.2. Staff will be trained on the concept of SIN (Safety, Isolate, and Notify). <br />3.5.3. Staff in these departments will support other staff in the department in <br />the spill clean-up process. <br />3.5.4. Consult with EH&S if there is any difficulty or question determining if <br />the spill is a small or large size spill. If EH&S is unavailable and the <br />department is unsure, treat the spill as a code yellow and refer to Code <br />Yellow policy EC.HZ.037. <br />3.5.5. Small spill volumes are as follows: <br />Product Incidental Spill Volume <br />Acids <br />Bases & Caustics <br />Bleach <br />Flammable Liquids <br />Formaldehyde <br />Glutaraldehyde <br />Hazardous Drugs <br />Less than 1/2 cup <br />Less than '/2 gallon / 1.9 L <br />Less than '/2 gallon / 1.9 L <br />Less than '/2 gallon / 1.9 L <br />Less than % cup / 180 ml <br />Less than '/2 gallon / 1.9 L <br />A liquid spill < 5 ml of an undiluted, <br />non-volatile agent. <br />3.5.6. Maintain the appropriate hazardous materials emergency spill kits in the <br />department. All employees will be trained in the proper use of these kits <br />for small spill clean up. The department will be responsible for <br />purchasing and restocking of supplies. <br />3.5.7. Don personal protective equipment required according to the type of <br />spill. At a minimum, the following should be used: <br />• Nitrile gloves (2 pair — user must always be double gloved). <br />• Chemical resistant gloves (To be worn over double set of nitrile <br />gloves). <br />• Impermeable suits <br />• Goggles <br />• Face shield <br />• Surgical mask <br />• Shoe covers <br />3.5.8. Dispose of all spilled clean-up materials/waste according to Hazardous <br />Materials and Waste Management, EC.HZ.039. <br />3.5.9. The Department Manager or Designee will complete the Spill/Splash/ <br />Release Reporting Form EC.HZ. 056B and submit to the EH&S <br />department.
