CYTOTOXIC AND HAZARDOUS DRUGS <br />Substances covered: <br />• Antineoplastic Drugs — Chemotherapy (ex: Cyclophosphamide, Fluorouracil) <br />• Antiviral Drugs (ex: Ganciclovin) <br />Health hazards: <br />• May have carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic effects. <br />• Contact may cause irritation to skin, eyes and mucus membranes and ulceration and <br />necrosis of tissue. <br />Physical Hazards: <br />• Many be corrosive depending on the drug <br />Equipment Needed: <br />Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): <br />• Gloves (double nitrile gloves) <br />• Chemo gown or impervious gown <br />• Goggles <br />• Foot Covers <br />• Half Face Cartridge Respirator with HEPA Filter (to be used for powder or liquid spills <br />where airborne powder or aerosol is or has been generated). <br />Control Materials: <br />• Absorbent Gauze Pads <br />• Absorbent Pads or Pillows <br />• Small Scoop <br />• Disposable Towels <br />• Chemo Waste Container (bags or puncture proof container, as needed) <br />1.
