An operator will page the Safety Manager and the Safety Coordinator if either are unavailable the Emergency Planner will be paged and Environmental Services Manager to verify the need to contact the external contract agency. If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be immediately turned off. In the event of personal injury, the injured party (employee) should immediately report to the Employee Health department or Urgent Care after 6:00 p.m. The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled hazardous material shall be obtained and brought to Employee Health or Urgent care. Visitors or Members should immediately report to Urgent Care, (Medicine 1). Employees shall identify the material, estimate volume, and if possible will isolate the spill material, provide initial neutralization. The spill area will be evacuated if necessary due to potential exposure over permissible exposure levels. Emergency spill response in the yellow departmental Safety Management manual should be utilized to assist in spill cleanup. If in a common area open to the public, staff should alert patients and visitors and instruct them to evacuate or clear the area. Security will assist in securing the area.
