SAFETY MANAGEMENT 0GRAM POLICY/PROCEDURE MOUAL <br />TITLE: HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTINGENCY PLAN <br />PAGE 3 OF 14 <br />If the spilled material is flammable, all ignition sources will be <br />immediately turned off. <br />In the event of personal injury, the injured party, (employee), should <br />immediately report to the Employee Health department or Urgent Care <br />after 6:00 p.m. Visitors or patients should immediately report to Urgent <br />Care, (Medicine 1). <br />The Material Safety Data Sheet for the spilled hazardous <br />material should be obtained and brought to Employee Health or <br />Urgent care. <br />Personnel must evacuate the spill area immediately only if: <br />• Breathing becomes difficult. <br />• Dizziness or other distress occurs. <br />• Any other difficulties or health symptoms develop indicating short- <br />term exposure. <br />• Airborne contaminant level is unknown. <br />No department staff are trained in "first response" at the awareness <br />level. <br />Environmental Services employees will proceed with appropriate <br />identification, isolation, neutralization, containment, and initial clean up <br />procedures, and will be assisted by the departmental employees for <br />identification and obtainment of Material Safety Data Sheets as necessary. <br />Environmental Health and Safety Personnel <br />Upon arrival at the scene, the Safety Manager, Safety <br />Coordinator, or Emergency Planner or designee shall evaluate <br />the extent of the spill and determine if departmental efforts are <br />appropriate, adequate, and sufficient. <br />Upon satisfactory clean up of the spill, the Safety Professional <br />will, if necessary or required, notify appropriate regulatory <br />agencies. <br />Emergency (large spill) localized in department or in a common area. <br />PRODUCT INCIDENTAL SPILL VOLUME <br />Fresno Revision dates: 09/12/96, 6/25/98, 3/30/00, 8/1/01,Stockton revision date 07/22/02, <br />09/19/02, 3/20/03,02/12/04, 07/06 <br />
