A <br />SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br />Medical Waste Management Plan <br />SUBJECT: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM <br />TITLE: Medical Waste Management Plan <br />EFFECTIVE DATE: 08/02 <br />PAGE 2 of 4- <br />DISTRIBUTION: Stockton Medical Center <br />(b) Waste Accumulation Area: <br />The facility maintains a secured area for storage of biohazardous waste pending <br />disposal. The storage area is marked with warnings that read in English and Spanish " <br />Caution biohazardous Waste Storage Area—Unauthorized Persons Keep Out". These <br />signs are legible from a distance of at least 25 feet. Biohazardous waste shall not be <br />stored on-site for more than seven days before disposal. Biohazardous waste is not <br />stored on the premises for more than 96 hours. <br />(c) Onsite treatment: <br />Kaiser Permanente Stockton does perform limited onsite waste treatment with the use <br />of a San-I-Pac. Waste will be treated in accordance with the medical waste <br />management act Chapter 8 section 118215. Steam sterilization will be utilized to <br />treat red bag waste. No sharps, pharmaceutical, trace chemotherapy, pathology, or <br />hazardous waste will be treated. Standard Operating Procedures have been <br />established for biological indicators and. adequate sterilization. Recording of <br />temperature of each load will be documented and temperature will reach 250°F for at <br />least one-half hour. In addition, the biological indicator Bacillus stearothermophilus <br />will be placed at the center of a load and processed under standard operating <br />conditions at least monthly to confirm the attainment of adequate sterilization <br />conditions. <br />In case of equipment failure, all medical waste will be placed in the medical waste <br />accumulation area and will be removed by Stericycle as necessary, but no less than <br />every seven days. <br />The alternate medical waste hauler is: <br />Ramos Environmental Services, Reg.
