jr . <br />TITLE <br />PROCEDURE NUMBER <br />EFFECTIVE DATE <br />ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES AIDE / PERSONNEL APPLICABLE T0: 7/92 <br />OPERATION OF SAN-I-PAK STERILIZER <br />PAGE NUMBER <br />I OF 1 <br />REVISION DATE <br />7/92 <br />PURPOSE: To give Environmental Aide information and directions to handle <br />the San -I -Pak in a safe and effective manner. <br />1. Transport all double red bagged infectious waste to the San -I -Pak <br />sterilizing area. <br />2. Place red bags in large autoclavable bags. <br />3. Place autoclavable bags into the sterilizing chamber. Do not use <br />hands to push bags use the metal push plate to push bags into chamber. <br />(If sterilizer is in operation leave bags in large blue holding bin.) <br />4. Puncture red bags with long metal device located at San -I -Pak. <br />5. Close chamber door, turn handle to right until tight. <br />6. Turn key to sterilizer on and push (2) times, sterilization/cycle has <br />begun. At this point you may leave -sterilization take approximately <br />45 minutes. <br />7. If you are running a spore sample, and do not wish for load to be <br />automatically compacted push sterilization button only once. This <br />will allow you to retrieve the spore sample after sterilization cycle <br />has been completed. <br />8. You may use the compacter while the sterilizer is in the sterilizing <br />cycle, but during the discharge cycle you cannot compact regular <br />trash. There is no danger if you attempt to compact during the dis- <br />charge cycle. (The cycle will only be interrupted until compactor <br />door is closed.) <br />NOTE: Do not put Identifiable Body Parts, Sharp Containers and Chemotherapy <br />waste in sterilizer.
